The Story Behind Flat Ink Press

This collection began with the way my family travels: whenever we can, we point the car toward a park. National parks, state parks, monuments — anywhere the landscape fills our souls with wonder and awe. Visiting all 63 national parks is the long-term dream, and every poster in this series is part of that journey.

I have always loved the bold, beautifully simple park posters of the 1960s, but original prints were far beyond what I could afford. So I set out to create the collection I wanted for my own walls: all 63 parks, designed as one cohesive series in the spirit of vintage serigraph printing — six flat inks, crisp shapes, and warm cream paper. So I created them to be accessible — art that anyone who loves these places could bring home and make part of their own story.

Each poster starts with a simple question: What is the view people carry with them when they leave this park? I spend time looking through National Park Service photographs, along with photos from our own family travels, so the landscape feels familiar and the details are true to the place.

From there, I shape and refine each poster until it feels unmistakably like that park — and like it belongs beside every other piece in the collection. Before I call it finished, I carefully review the colors, lettering, borders, and overall balance to make sure it is something I would be proud to hang on my own wall.

The result is more than a set of matching prints. It is a collection of places we have wandered, places that left us in wonder, and places we hope never to forget.

How these are made

AI is one of the creative tools I use to make this series. Behind every poster is my direction: choosing the view, researching the landscape, verifying the dates, refining the composition, and making sure each piece follows the same carefully developed style.

Every poster is reviewed and adjusted by me before it becomes part of the collection. The goal is not simply to create 63 individual images, but to make 63 parks feel like one timeless set — consistent enough to hang together, while still capturing what makes each place unforgettable.
